Quick answer: A hangover IV drip can replace lost fluid quickly, but it does not cure a hangover. Only time does that, usually within 24 hours. With City Doctor in Dubai, the Hangover MiniFix is AED 699 and The Ultimate Hangover Recovery Drip is AED 1,299. A drip is a choice, not a must.
A hangover IV drip is worth it for some people, but it is not a cure, and most hangovers pass on their own within 24 hours. With City Doctor, a hangover drip at home in Dubai costs AED 699 or AED 1,299 and takes 45 to 60 minutes.
Below you will find what a drip can and cannot do, what to try first, the prices, and the signs that mean you should call 998. Prices are in UAE dirhams (AED) and were checked on 5 October 2026. Each drip page always shows the current price.
What causes a hangover?
A hangover is the set of symptoms you feel after drinking too much alcohol. The United States National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) lists several causes that work together:
- Mild dehydration. Alcohol makes you pass more urine, so you lose fluid.
- Broken sleep. You may fall asleep fast but wake early and tired.
- An upset stomach. Alcohol irritates the stomach lining and raises stomach acid.
- Inflammation. Alcohol raises inflammation in the body.
- A toxic by-product. Your body breaks alcohol down into a substance that makes you feel unwell.
Common symptoms are tiredness, thirst, headache, nausea, stomach pain, and being sensitive to light and sound. Cleveland Clinic says symptoms tend to ease over 8 to 24 hours.
Can an IV drip cure a hangover?
No. Nothing cures a hangover. NIAAA puts it plainly: "only time can help". Cleveland Clinic says the same: time is the only true cure.
NIAAA also says that no hangover remedy has been proven to work. It adds that research has not found a link between how much your body salts change and how bad your hangover feels.
So be careful with any promise of an instant fix. A drip does not remove alcohol from your blood. It does not make you safe to drive.
What can a hangover drip do?
A drip puts fluid and body salts straight into a vein. Cleveland Clinic says IV fluids can quickly restore fluid if you are dehydrated. This can be useful when you feel too sick to drink enough.
That is the honest case for a hangover drip. It deals with one part of a hangover, the lost fluid, and it does so fast. It does not fix broken sleep, an irritated stomach or the other causes. Cleveland Clinic also says the benefit of IV vitamins as a general wellness tool is still uncertain.
What should I try first at home?
Start with simple steps. They cost nothing, and they are what medical sources advise:
- Drink fluids. The NHS advises drinking fluids for dehydration, in small sips if you feel sick. A pharmacist can suggest oral rehydration salts that you mix with water.
- Eat something plain. Cleveland Clinic suggests bland, starchy foods.
- Rest and sleep.
- Do not drink more alcohol. A morning drink does not help, and it can make you feel unwell for longer.
Take care with painkillers. NIAAA warns that some common painkillers can harm the liver or irritate the stomach when alcohol is still in your body. Ask a pharmacist or a doctor which one is safe for you.
How much does a hangover IV drip cost in Dubai?
City Doctor has two hangover drips:
- Hangover MiniFix: AED 699. A 500 ml drip that takes about 45 minutes. The page lists it for dehydration, nausea, headache, brain fog and low appetite.
- The Ultimate Hangover Recovery Drip: AED 1,299. A larger 1000 ml drip that takes about 60 minutes.
Tax is added at payment where it applies. You can see every drip in one price table on the IV drips at home page.
So, is a hangover drip worth it?
It depends on your day.
A drip may be worth it if:
- you feel too sick to keep fluids down by mouth
- you have a flight, a meeting or a family event and want fluid back fast
- you would rather rest in your home or hotel while a nurse looks after the drip
A drip is probably not worth it if:
- your hangover is mild and you can drink water and eat
- you expect it to end the hangover at once
- you want it so you can drive or drink again sooner
For most mild hangovers, water, food and sleep are enough.
Who should check with a doctor before a hangover drip?
An IV drip is a medical treatment, so it is not free of risk. Cleveland Clinic lists possible problems such as infection or bruising where the needle goes in, and reactions with medicines you already take.
It also says some people should be careful with IV drips. This includes people with heart disease, high blood pressure or kidney disease, and women who are pregnant. If any of these apply to you, talk to your doctor and tell our team before you book.
Our clinical team checks that the drip suits you before your visit. Please tell us about any health problems, medicines or allergies. City Doctor is DHA licensed (licence 6210618), and our drips are given by licensed nurses.
When is it not a hangover, and when should I call 998?
A drip at home is not for emergencies. Too much alcohol can cause alcohol poisoning, which is life-threatening. The NHS lists these signs:
- confusion
- slurred words, or being unable to speak
- being unable to stand or walk
- being sick (vomiting)
- pale or blue-tinged skin
- slow or irregular breathing
- a seizure or fit
- passing out
If you see any of these, call 998 for an ambulance now. Stay with the person. Do not give them coffee, a cold shower or more alcohol.
If you do not feel better after 24 hours, or you have a fever or strong stomach pain, it may not be a hangover. You can book a doctor visit at home for AED 399.
What else do people ask about hangover drips in Dubai?
How soon can a nurse come?
You pick a one-hour time slot. The earliest slot starts at least 1 hour from now. City Doctor works 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Can I have a hangover drip in my hotel room?
Yes. Our nurses visit homes, hotels and offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. City Doctor also holds licences from the Department of Health Abu Dhabi (MF8071) and the Sharjah Health Authority (HF/2026/000533).
